About Solana
Solana is a proof-of-stake blockchain that launched Mainnet Beta in March 2020. It combines validator voting with Proof of History, a time-ordering mechanism used to establish the sequence of events on the network. Its runtime can execute transactions in parallel when they do not depend on the same account state. SOL is the native asset and is used to pay transaction fees and to stake with validators that participate in securing the network. Applications on Solana include exchanges, payment services, games and digital-asset platforms. The network has experienced several outages and periods of degraded performance since launch; client and protocol changes have subsequently addressed identified causes. SOL has no fixed maximum supply. New SOL is issued under the network's inflation schedule, and a portion of transaction fees is burned. SOL trades on open markets and has historically experienced substantial price volatility.
