About BNB
BNB was first issued in 2017 as an exchange token offering fee discounts. It later became the native asset of BNB Chain, a blockchain ecosystem that supports smart contracts and decentralised applications. Its execution environment is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, allowing many Ethereum-oriented applications and development tools to operate on the network. BNB is used to pay transaction fees and is also used within the network's staking and governance processes. The asset began with a fixed initial issuance rather than an ongoing mining schedule. BNB's total supply is progressively reduced through burn mechanisms. These include the protocol's Auto-Burn process, which removes a calculated amount of BNB based on defined network and supply inputs, alongside fee-burning mechanisms on BNB Chain. BNB trades on open markets and has historically experienced substantial price volatility.
