About Chainlink
Chainlink is a decentralised oracle network whose mainnet launched in 2019. Smart contracts generally cannot retrieve information outside their own blockchain without an external data-delivery mechanism. Chainlink oracle networks aggregate reports from independent node operators to provide data such as asset prices, exchange rates and other reference information. Its Price Feeds are used by many decentralised-finance applications, including lending, derivatives and stablecoin systems, to value collateral or settle transactions. Chainlink also provides services related to cross-chain communication, automated smart-contract execution and verifiable randomness. LINK is the network's token and can be used to compensate service providers and support parts of the network's security model. The token has a fixed maximum supply of one billion LINK. LINK trades on open markets and has historically experienced substantial price volatility.
